About Gudi Padwa / Ugadi
Gudi Padwa marks the traditional new year in Maharashtra, and the same lunar day is celebrated as Ugadi in Karnataka and Telangana and as Cheti Chand by the Sindhi community. It falls on the first day of Chaitra, the first month of the Amanta lunar year.
Families raise a gudi — a bright silk banner crowned with an inverted copper or silver pot — outside their homes to welcome the year and mark Rama’s legendary return to Ayodhya.
