About Ekadashi
Ekadashi is the eleventh lunar day of each fortnight, occurring twice in every lunar month — twenty-four times a year. It is the most widely kept fast in the Hindu calendar, dedicated to Vishnu: devotees abstain from grains and beans through the day, spend the evening in prayer and kirtan, and break the fast on the following day (Dwadashi) after sunrise. Each Ekadashi carries its own name and legend, told in the Puranas.
Names follow the Smarta list; ISKCON and other Vaishnava calendars shift kshaya dates to the next day. Dates below marked “(kshaya)” use the day the tithi begins.
