About Chaitra Navratri
Chaitra Navratri is the nine-night spring festival dedicated to the goddess Durga and her nine forms, running from the first day of Chaitra. It is the Navratri observed in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, and it ends with Ram Navami.
Devotees observe partial fasts, sow nine grains called navadhanya on the first day to watch them sprout over the festival, and dedicate each night to one form of the goddess. In temple towns the days are marked by alankaram and recitation of the Devi Mahatmya.
